AI Policy for Reviewers
Policy Statement
Peer reviewers must protect manuscript confidentiality, reviewer independence, and the integrity of the peer review process. Reviewers may not upload unpublished manuscripts, figures, data, supplementary files, or review materials into public or external AI tools unless the journal gives explicit permission and the tool satisfies confidentiality and data protection requirements.
Reviewer Responsibility
Reviewers are personally responsible for the content, accuracy, tone, and fairness of their review. AI-generated review text must not be submitted without careful human checking. Reviewers must not allow AI tools to make scientific judgments, recommendation decisions, or confidential assessments on their behalf.
Allowed Support
- Private grammar improvement of a review written by the reviewer, if no manuscript content or confidential data are disclosed.
- Private organization of reviewer notes, if confidentiality is preserved.
- Checking non-confidential reviewer language for clarity and professionalism.
Reviewer Disclosure
If a reviewer uses AI in any meaningful way during the review process, the reviewer must disclose this to the editor. The editor may decide whether the review can be used.
Prohibited Use
- Uploading the manuscript or supplementary files to external AI systems without permission.
- Using AI to produce a review that has not been independently verified by the reviewer.
- Delegating confidential peer review to another person or system without editorial approval.
- Using AI to identify authors in a blinded review process.
